Libby Wells is an internationally recognised tattoo artist and educator known for her distinctive fine line black and grey tattooing. Based in Newmarket, Suffolk, Libby specialises in bespoke fine art tattoos, ranging from detailed small pieces to large-scale black and grey work, often inspired by mythology, symbolism, and the natural world.
Libby’s tattoo style is deeply rooted in a fine art approach, using only 3 round liners to build detailed textures, subtle gradients, and strong visual storytelling. Her clients are often drawn to her ability to create elegant, intricate designs that honour both artistic depth and skin integrity.
Alongside her tattoo work, Libby is also a dedicated educator. She offers both online tattoo training and in-person tattoo coaching from her private studio, where she mentors emerging artists in mastering fine line and black and grey tattoo techniques. Fine Art Oil Paintings – Horses, Hounds & Commissions
Alongside her tattoo work, Libby Wells is a proficient traditional oil painter, best known for her elegant and expressive equestrian artwork. Horses are her most predominant subject of choice, but she also welcomes dog portrait commissions and human portraits painted from high-quality photography.
Libby offers the option to work from your own photos or can visit your yard for a bespoke photography session, capturing the perfect reference to turn into a timeless oil painting. Using classical oil techniques, each piece is crafted to last for generations. Prints are also available, making it easy to gift extra copies to friends and family.

For me, art has always been more than just technique — it’s a way of exploring the deeper layers of what it means to be human. Whether I’m painting or tattooing, I’m constantly inspired by ideas of individuation, symbolism, and personal transformation. My work often reflects themes tied to mythology, psychology, and the unseen patterns that connect us all.
I’m especially drawn to creating bespoke tattoos and original oil paintings that carry emotional weight — work that’s meaningful, personal, and lasting. I love collaborating with people who are on their own journey of self-discovery, and who want something more than surface-level art. Libby is utterly fantastic. I was recommended her by a friend a year ago and have since had three tattoos by her and will now never go anywhere else. She takes time to talk through your ideas and uses her professional knowledge to suggest what might look better in terms of whether more might be added to the tattoo or the placement, following the lines on your body.
